Changes coming to the uBlock ad-blocker extension

Image
For many years now, all staff and students have used the "uBlock Origin" adblocker extension in Chrome.  This background extension does a critical job in making most Internet sites useful and readable, without all the blinky ads and pop-ups and banners and crud.  Unfortunately, Google is changing how ad-blocking extensions work in Chrome, with the goal of weakening ad-blocking in general.  The uBlock Origin extension will stop working within a few weeks. Starting Friday the 25th for staff, we will be removing "uBlock Origin" and replacing it with the "uBlock Origin Lite" extension.  Though they share a name, they work differently -- the Lite will not allow us (Tech) to customize your settings remotely.  Some changes you will notice include: When first installed, there will be a new tab introducing uBlock Origin Lite with some settings.  You're welcome to "level up" your settings from Basic to Optimal, but you can also just accept the Basic se...

New Graphic Arts IPads in use at Baldwin Creek Art

Image
We're excited to announce our new Graphic Arts IPad Pro checkout kit!  The kit contains 26 13-inch IPad Pro devices and 26 Apple Pencil Pro devices. Each has a collection of digital art apps that we will be improving as time goes on. Today, Mrs. Widhalm used the kit with her Fifth Graders at Baldwin Creek.  It was the first time the IPads had been used by students, who created digital flip books by drawing individual frames, then exported their animations as movies. Thanks to Mrs. Widhalm and her students for letting us come watch (and draw!) end

Wyoming Innovations Grant awarded to Fremont #1 Tech!

Image
We are excited and humbled to announce that the Fremont #1 Technology Department has successfully written for our sixth consecutive Wyoming Innovations Grant award! The Wyoming Trust Fund for Innovative Education program is a competitive grant program offered by the Wyo Department of Education, with a stated purpose to create innovative educational opportunities for public school students at all levels.  It's an annual program (save for the 2023-2024 school year when it was not offered) that offers $250,000 each year to districts who complete a successful grant application.  The maximum amount a district can write for is $50,000, and usually only five grants are awarded each year, and the program ensures there is at least one winner in Class 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A districts. This year's grant proposal empowers our district to complete an ambitious set of goals that will strengthen and broaden our use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer literacy concepts within our distric...

District subscription to EdPuzzle Pro

Image
We're pleased to announce that both Tech and Curriculum partnered to purchase a district license for EdPuzzle Pro for the 2024-2025 school year. EdPuzzle is free, but the Pro license allows access to additional content as well as unlimited storage space. Teachers who already have EdPuzzle free accounts should be automatically moved under the Pro umbrella. For teachers participating in August 13th's Tech Jumpstart Day, we will send out Pro invites before the 13th so you can set up your account.  One of our sessions will be about EdPuzzle. For other staff, we will release invites later in August.  Watch the Tech Update emails you receive for details.

District subscription to ClassroomScreen.com

We're pleased to announce that we have purchased a district license for ClassroomScreen.com for the 2024-2025 school year. ClassroomScreen is free, but the Pro license allows users to save their screens, so you can put the time into making a useful and nice-looking screen and know it will remain.  You can make screens for each class, or for times of the day, or for any categories you can think of.  The Pro licenses also adds more widgets, more custom backgrounds, etc. For teachers participating in August 13th's Tech Jumpstart Day, we will send out Pro invites before the 13th so you can set up your account.  One of our sessions will be about ClassroomScreen.com. For other staff, we will release invites later in August.  Watch the Tech Update emails you receive for details.

We're back for the 2024-2025 school year!

Hello!  It's been more than two years since we've used our Tech blog page.  So ..... we've purged all the old content and we're starting anew for the 2024-2025 school year! Going forward, we will be using this as a resource to communicate with both staff and the community.  For our staff, the blog will also replace our monthly newsletter that we've done in years past.  This will let us get articles and information out to staff in a more timely manner than waiting for a month's worth of newsletter to be typed and formatted.   We will send blog posts via email to staff as Tech updates as we post them, and we will use tags to identify posts as being for everyone, as opposed to things that might be posted just for tech managers or other groups of staff. Keep an eye out for postings in the next few weeks regarding: Some new and exciting professional development opportunities for District staff Fall and spring tech projects that are in the works Other exciting th...
