Wyoming Innovations Grant awarded to Fremont #1 Tech!

We are excited and humbled to announce that the Fremont #1 Technology Department has successfully written for our sixth consecutive Wyoming Innovations Grant award!

The Wyoming Trust Fund for Innovative Education program is a competitive grant program offered by the Wyo Department of Education, with a stated purpose to create innovative educational opportunities for public school students at all levels.  It's an annual program (save for the 2023-2024 school year when it was not offered) that offers $250,000 each year to districts who complete a successful grant application.  The maximum amount a district can write for is $50,000, and usually only five grants are awarded each year, and the program ensures there is at least one winner in Class 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A districts.

This year's grant proposal empowers our district to complete an ambitious set of goals that will strengthen and broaden our use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer literacy concepts within our district. We designed five complementary goals that build an authentic, challenging, and diverse range of learning and activities for our staff, students, and community.

  • Goal #1: Support AI and Computer Science standards integration through ISTE certification.
      
  • Goal #2: Powerfully introduce and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) pedagogy and applications to all staff, with an eye toward how both staff efficiency and student learning will benefit.
      
  • Goal #3: Strengthen real-world application of computer science concepts by providing engaging and diverse opportunities for our K-8 students.
      
  • Goal #4: Support our ongoing partnership with local preschools to build computational thinking readiness skills and activities among community Pre-K children.
      
  • Goal #5: Provide opportunities to our parents and community that will boost the appreciation and understanding of the critical role that Computer Science now has within our schools.

We're pleased to announce that both Tech and Curriculum partnered to purchase a district license for EdPuzzle Pro for the 2024-2025 school year. EdPuzzle is free, but the Pro license allows access to additional content as well as unlimited storage space. Teachers who already have EdPuzzle free accounts should be automatically moved under the Pro umbrella. For teachers participating in August 13th's Tech Jumpstart Day, we will send out Pro invites before the 13th so you can set up your account.  One of our sessions will be about EdPuzzle. We're back for the 2024-2025 school year!

Hello!  It's been more than two years since we've used our Tech blog page.  So ..... we've purged all the old content and we're starting anew for the 2024-2025 school year! Going forward, we will be using this as a resource to communicate with both staff and the community.  For our staff, the blog will also replace our monthly newsletter that we've done in years past.  This will let us get articles and information out to staff in a more timely manner than waiting for a month's worth of newsletter to be typed and formatted.   We will send blog posts via email to staff as Tech updates as we post them, and we will use tags to identify posts as being for everyone, as opposed to things that might be posted just for tech managers or other groups of staff.
